Would, could, can and will

 

The Modal Verbs would, could, can and will are used to invite someone or to ask someone if he or she wants to do something.
The classical example of this would be a man proposing to a woman:

Might and would are also used to suggest that something is possible, for example: It might rain today.

Look at how they are used in the dialogue at the beginning of this Unit:

….. Oh, sorry, your husband might object ….. and ….. Oh, your boyfriend would object.
