Negative Answers, Yes-No Questions and short answers in the Present Perfect

Use has not / hasn’t – have not / haven’t + past participle to make a negative answer in the present perfect:

I haven’t seen a worse performance than the Hohum Cultural Society’s “production” of Verdi’s “Aida”

He hasn’t played the piano in 5 years.



For Yes-No questions, use the following word order:

Has / have

+ subject

+ past participle

+ rest of sentence

Have

seen

a worse performance than…?

Has

the piano in 5 years?


For short answers use:

Yes, he/ she/ it hasn’t.

Yes, he/she/it hasn’t.

No, I/ we/ you/ they haven’t.

- No, I haven’t.
